Paul Richmond

I haven't made a blog entry in awhile and I really don't have any of my own work to post so I have decided to post a painter and maybe a couple other artists I am interested in.  This is Paul Richmond he is an amazing painter.  I like that he takes the traditional pin-up style but uses it with men instead of women.  His work prior to that is full of sexuality and religious undertones which I also find very evocative.  Let me know what you think.

Inspiration. Patrick Dougherty and Sean Guerrero.

I like making sculptures out of things that aren't very ordinary so when I saw these two sculptors I was really intrigued.  The first, Patrick Dougherty, makes huge sculptures out of sticks and tree branches.  They range from very abstract to large objects or shelters.  They are intricately woven together. 

The second, Sean Guerrero, creates sculptures out of old chrome car bumpers.  He has tons of different subjects, but my favorites are the animals.  They look so live and passionate. 

I want to do something that combines the intricately woven branches used by Dougherty and the animal subjects used by Guerrero.  I think I can pull off something very interesting...I just have to figure out what.

Sad Face (Needs a Better Title)

I am working on a photo piece of multiple images for a show at the High Falls Gallery in Rochester.  I recently experienced a death in the family and I took it kind of hard.  This piece has helped me get over it a little bit more as well as release some pent up emotion.  I want to have the photos in a frame of 3x3 or 4x3 or something like that.  I am excited about this.

So I went to the Zoo today....

I went to the Buffalo zoo today and I loved it...but I always love the zoo. Anyways, here are some of my favorite images I got from the day.  Let me know what you think. 

 

 

 

Photo Number Three!

The sentence for my third week of my project with Britny Wainwright is:

"Those golden dreams so crazy and wild descended the terrace in groups of three."

A Photo Project

I am doing a photo project over this summer with Britny Wainwright.  We are trading sentences once a week and creating a photo out of our interpretation of the other's sentence.  I have decided to add a bit of whimsy and a feeling like there is something strange going on in the photo.

The first sentence I recieved is: "To fall upwards is something never expected."

The second sentence is: "The trials and tribulations of the songs we sing lead us to an intricate harmony."

I am really excited about this project.  I cannot wait to see everything we both come up with.
